about

The Ellis Island album is based on the Ellis Island Portraits by Augustus Sherman (1865-1925). Sherman was an immigration clerk at Ellis Island, who did a series of photographs of new arrivals dressed up in their traditional, regional clothing.

Stan and Harmen see in these portraits the very real confirmation that migration is something of all time. They hope people start to see today's refugee crisis in the same light as this migration movement a century ago. Back then Europeans were, for whatever reason, leaving their countries in search of a better life. Now people from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, ... are doing the same. So who are we to judge in 2017?

about

doux Antwerp, Belgium

Doux is the new collaboration between Stan Nieuwenhuis and Harmen Vanhoorne. They met during their musical training, became friends and now, 15 years later, decided to create their own sound and music. It's hard to put doux in a box or to give it a label. It has a new, fresh sound, influenced by jazz, electronic music and brass band music. ... more
